May's bday card 1

And now, for the comic book, cartoon and movie characters celebrating their birthdays in May…

On May 18, 2001, Dreamworks Animation released a fantasy-comedy film, directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, with a very special star. Voiced by Mike Myers, he's a a reclusive but kindhearted ogre, who becomes a respected hero with an ever growing collection of friends and family in a fairy tale world in spite of himself and his initial misanthropy, fed by how most of the world sees him as nothing but an ugly and stupid being… until meeting an over-talkative, waffles lover and at times annoying yet always loyal donkey, who'd help him rescue a not-so-defenseless damsel from a very far away land, that would later marry him and start a family with. 

The franchise would eventually grow and become widely popular, parodying/mocking fairy tales and pretty much every related cliche and stereotype, with the subsequent films and TV specials adding new characters and expanding the previous ones' background, to the point they would rival the green ogre's popularity and even having their own spin-offs, as it happened with certain sword fighting, Spaniard feline.

So, happy birthday, Big Guy, and enjoy it with your family and friends, even if they might drive you crazy most of the time. And yes, we're looking at you, Donkey.
